Landa Global Properties Partners with Talisman Art and the Centre of International Contemporary Art on a Pop-Up Art Gallery and Exclusive Art Curation Program for Residents

In collaboration with the Centre of International Contemporary Art Vancouver, Landa Global Properties and Talisman Art are partnering on a unique display of contemporary fine art and iconic Italian furniture design at 1818 Alberni. The pop-up gallery will be open to the public on three weekends in February and March (Feb 18, 19, 25, 26 and March 4, 5), with an exclusive VIP opening event for residents at the upcoming boutique condo development. 

The gallery opening at the 1818 sales centre will launch an exclusive art curator program for residents interested in incorporating high-end furniture design and art into their homes. The curator program will be led by Talisman, an independent art consulting firm based in Vancouver. The pop-up gallery is a Landa x Talisman offering, with support from CICA, a non-profit art gallery in Vancouver. Together, they will be bringing gallery-level art to the new homes at 1818, providing new residents with a unique art curation service. 

The collection is a striking and eclectic offering of a wide-range of contemporary and post-modernist pieces, each with a rich history, some dating back to the 1980s. On display will be notable pieces by Gufram and Memphis Milano, both high-end Italian brands that have been prominently showcased at MoMA. Paintings by masters such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jean- Baptiste Bernadet and Madeleine Bialke, on loan from CICA, will also be featured. 

“As an art collector and aficionado, I am thrilled to be able to host such a striking, bold and elegant avant-garde collection,” says Landa CEO Kevin Cheung. “Beyond just the showcase of these pieces, the free curatorial services for our residents at 1818 will offer inspiration for designing elegant inspired homes at 1818. I’m honored to be part of this exhibit and this offering to our buyers.”

The collection on display features everything from art to lamps, chairs, tables, fruit bowls and vases. Most of the pieces are experimental, on the boundary between art and architecture. Some highlights include Andy’s Yellow Cactus, a coat stand made of soft polyurethane finished by hand with Guflac®. Designed by Andy Warhol for Gufram, this is a limited edition made in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation of Visual Arts. Subverting the borders between indoor areas and open space, the cactus is a totem that embodies the grit, imagination and humor of 70s design, and questions the static and rigid world of interior design. 

Also featured is a piece called, Riddle Me This Batman, A Panel of Experts, Piano Lesson, and Flash In Naples, by Jean-Michel Basquiat, an American artist who rose to success during the 1980s as part of the Neo-expressionist movement. Basquiat’s paintings now belong in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.
